What is Dyslexia?

It can show as reversals, but it can also look like trouble with reading and/or comprehension.  It can show up as trouble with spelling or writing. Underneath each issue is a three dimensional way of thinking that creates a giftedness while causing issues with symbols.

Isn’t dyslexia just reversals of letters and numbers?

Dyslexia may appear as any of the follow traits:

Not responding to phonics

Reading without comprehension

Appears lazy

Inability to do math

Unwillingness to try new things

Bright & gifted, struggles with learning

Can you diagnose dyslexia?

In order to give a diagnosis, you need to work with a medical professional.  We can do an assessment, which would let you know if the programs we offer would be appropriate for you/your child.

An initial assessment will let you know if the program would be appropriate for you/your child, and would allow you to make an informed decision about whether or not to move forward with the program.

There is nothing needed to prepare for an assessment!

The assessment takes about 1 ½-2 hours. During that time, there would be a series of questions asked of the potential client and his/her parents/partner.  The questions are designed to learn how the learning issue impacts both school and life and to reveal the ways this person is gifted. Time is spent in learning how best to orient the potential client if they decide to proceed, and in getting an overview of what can be expected during a program.  There is time for questions and concerns.
